Website Claims That Police Have Launched a Murder Investigation into the Death of Chester Bennington, the Singer of Linkin Park

Fact Test - False

The claim(s):

Around 9:00 AM on July 20, 2017, Chester Bennington, vocalist for Linkin Park, was found dead by his housekeeper, the reported cause of death being an apparent suicide by hanging.

A subsequent article on published on July 21, 2017 claimed that the police had started a murder investigation into Bennington’s death, according to an alleged anonymous source inside the police.

This article was then widely disseminated via social media, and the accusations later evolved to include accusations of the murder being designed to cover up a paedophile ring.

The truth:

The claims that Bennington was murdered and that the police had begun an investigation into Bennington’s death have been widely debunked.

According to Snopes, the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Office who handle all the homicides in the jurisdiction where Bennington died didn’t respond to Bennington’s death and have no open murder investigation into his death.

Other outlets such as Mirror Online have likewise refuted this claim.

Furthermore, Bennington’s cause of death has been independently confirmed by the Coroner’s Office as being suicide by hanging, as otherwise reported.

In addition to this, Your News Wire has been listed as an unreliable news source by numerous organizations, and has a history of publishing hoaxes.

It is on this basis that we find the claims to be false.
